OUR LEGAL WORK

Our team is invested in movement lawyering from the ground up. We work to take care of LACCLA’s base, and to support the thriving of the tenants’ rights movement in the Los Angeles area.

Solidarity lawyering and consultation

Our legal team supports both LACCLA’s base and the broader network of tenant organizers in the Los Angeles area through affirmative litigation. We will sue on behalf of tenant union leaders, organizations, targeted organizers and tenant associations to advance their organizing goals, often through retaliation and discrimination claims.

We also offer legal consultation and ongoing strategic support to tenant associations and organizers outside of LACCLA who are engaged in live landlord-tenant struggles.

Evictions: Collective Defense

Fighting displacement and gentrification is a collective act. Our eviction defense is contained in our Collective Defense Project, where tenants facing eviction work in teams to defend evictions alongside our attorneys and tenant leaders. LACCLA is not a high-volume legal services organization.

Social reproduction and collective problem solving

Our attorneys support members of our base through collective problem solving in other areas critical to social reproduction, such as family or benefits law. Our members often live at the intersection of many oppressive systems, requiring our legal team to be responsive to emerging crises.
