In 2017, the City of Los Angeles entered into a settlement agreement with a landlord to exempt a 38-unit rental property from the Los Angeles Rent Stabilization Ordinance. A few months later, tenants at the property began receiving big rent increases. Some of these tenants have lived at the property since the 80s, and were shocked to learn that the agreement between the City and their landlord meant they were no longer protected by rent control.

With the help of LACCLA, the tenants sued the City and their landlord to claw back their building’s rent control status.
